Louisiana Tumor Registry Wins National Award
Congratulations to the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR). The LTR has received the First Place Award for the 2008 Coding & Staging Reliability Study - a vital part of the LTR’s quality improvement process. The study is conducted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program. Studies are designed to test the skills of registry personnel at all NCI cancer registries and to measure consistency in the application of codes and coding rules.
Tumor registries collect data to report newly diagnosed cancer cases, assisting in health care decision making and formation of public policy.
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center houses and operates one of eight regional registries comprising the Louisiana Tumor Registry.
