(Baton Rouge) - Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and LSU recently co-hosted a seminar titled “Dedicated Breast CT Imaging System” in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. An internationally-known expert in the field, Dr. John M. Boone, professor and Vice Chair (Research) of Radiology at the University of California Davis Medical Center was the featured speaker.  Boone presented his research to students and faculty pertaining to the use of computer tomography – or CT – imaging systems as part of a comprehensive diagnostic breast examination from pre-diagnosis risk assessment to post diagnosis virtual biopsy and therapy.

Dr. Kenneth Hogstrom, chief of physics, MBP, professor and director, Medical Physics and Health Physics Program, LSU stated, “We appreciate the opportunity to have Dr. Boone present his research to our students and faculty. LSU medical physics faculty, assistant professor Dr. Polad Shikhaliev, is doing innovative research in breast imaging, and discussion among such experts is an enriching experience that benefits research programs at LSU and UC Davis.”
