(Hammond) – Cindy Williamson, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s development director, Northshore/Florida Parishes, was the guest speaker at the October 16, 2008 meeting of the Pretty Hat Society. The Society is comprised of young female entrepreneurs in the Hammond community who meet on a monthly basis to organize and participate in various charity and community events.

“Cindy’s presentation was very informative,” said founder Michalle “Shelly” DeYarmett of Hammond. “We were most impressed with Mary Bird Perkins’ commitment to serving patients regardless of ability to pay and the free cancer screenings the Early Bird mobile screening unit makes available. It’s impressive how much Mary Bird Perkins cares about the community.”

The mission of the Pretty Hat Society is to help other charitable and non-profit organizations in the greater Hammond area achieve their goals.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has been fighting cancer for over 35 years with locations in Baton Rouge, Covington, Hammond, Houma and soon to be in Gonzales. It has comprehensive cancer programs with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. These programs are accredited by the American College of Surgeons – the gold standard for community-based cancer care. For more information visit www.marybird.org.
