(Covington) – Every year during October, St. Peter’s School in Covington holds “Denim Day” – a fund-raiser to help fight breast cancer during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center was chosen as the beneficiary of the event.

Information was given to all 500 families of the school about the work of the nonprofit Cancer Center. Each student was given the option to donate $1 to wear denim to school for the day to support the work of Mary Bird Perkins. The donation for faculty was $5.

Together, students and teachers raised over $1,000.00 to help Mary Bird Perkins in the fight against cancer.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has been fighting cancer for over 35 years with locations in Baton Rouge, Covington, Hammond, Houma and soon to be in Gonzales. It has comprehensive cancer programs with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. These programs are accredited by the American College of Surgeons – the gold standard for community-based cancer care. For more information visit www.marybird.org.
