(Covington, LA) – Over 360 athletes registered for the 25th annual Crawfishman Triathlon held on May 6, 2008 benefiting pre-selected community organizations and foundations, among them Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. Approximately 330 finished the grueling 1,000 yard swim, 18 mile bike course and 4 mile run. Competitors came not only from the Northshore but from New Orleans and more than ten other states to pursue the beckoning call of “Spanish moss in my hand, turn me into the Crawfishman.”

Cindy Williamson, development director, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Northshore/Florida Parishes, and her family were among the race volunteers for the day. “The entire event was just extraordinary,” said Williamson. “To see people come together to have a positive impact on the community, to help make it possible to support organizations truly making a difference -- like fighting cancer – was so uplifting.”

Regarding the awards presented to the overall and masters individual winners, Williamson said, “The unique awards reflected the entire spirit of the event. The custom painted art designs by Lori Sperier (wife of Race Director Steve Sperier) and Nicholas Salvetti (son of Executive Race director Mark Salvetti) were more than trophies or plaques. They were awards from the heart.”
