Richard Lipsey Re-elected Center’s Board Chairman

(Baton Rouge) – At the April 2008 Board of Directors meeting of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, new volunteer leadership was elected to help carry out the mission of the Center.

For over 35 years, the Center’s mission has been to fight cancer by providing patients with the highest quality radiation therapy available, compassionate care and comprehensive support services - treating patients regardless of their ability to pay. MBP is also dedicated to fighting cancer through cancer education, prevention and early detection services. As a nonprofit community-owned cancer center, Mary Bird Perkins is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

Richard A. Lipsey, chairman of Lipsey’s Inc., was re-elected to serve as the Center’s board chairman. “I am convinced there is no finer organization in the country providing radiation therapy and focusing on the fight against cancer than Mary Bird Perkins,” said Lipsey. “It is an honor to play a small part in helping Mary Bird Perkins continue to deliver high-quality, advanced cancer treatment to citizens throughout the southeast Louisiana region.”

Robert S. Greer Jr. will remain on the board for an additional year as immediate past chairman. Other officers re-elected include J. Gerard Jolly, KPMG, vice chair and Dr. Tom Meek, secretary. Vice Chair Jerry Jolly will concurrently hold the office of treasurer. Board members re-elected for an additional term include Dudley W. Coates, Shelley Mockler and Gary A. Sligar.

Hudson, president/CEO, Louisiana Lottery. Welcomed to the Board of Directors for a period of one year was Bill O’Quin, Financial Services Online, while he serves as the 2008 Annual Giving Chairman.
