Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Board Elects New Directors

(Baton Rouge) – At the April 2007 annual Board of Directors meeting of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, new volunteer leadership was elected to help carry out the mission of the Center.

Richard A. Lipsey was elected to serve as the Center’s chairman of the board, the sixth in the Center’s 36 years. Lipsey, president of Lipsey’s Inc., succeeds Robert S. Greer Jr., who will remain on the board for an additional two years as immediate past chairman.

Other officers elected include J. Gerard Jolly, KPMG, vice chairman, and Dr. Tom J. Meek Jr., Dermatology Clinic, secretary. D. Randolph Waesche, Resource Management, Inc., was re-elected treasurer.

New Board members elected for three-year terms include Brett P. Furr, Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips; Sancy McCool, community activist; and Paul R. Thompson, CitiGroup Smith Barney, Annual Giving immediate past chairman. Joseph H. Campbell Jr. was named an emeritus board member.

Appointed to the Board of Directors were James R. McIlwain, Lamar Advertising Company, 2007 Annual Giving Chairman, and G. Lee Griffin, retired, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Foundation Chairman.

“For over 35 years, Mary Bird Perkins has been governed by volunteer leadership -- standard bearers of excellence who have made the Center what it is today,” commented Todd Stevens, president and CEO of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “The addition of these great community leaders to our Board ensures that Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center will remain at the pinnacle of cancer care in the communities it serves.”
