Prevention & Early Detection

Mary Bird Perkins collaborates with many community partners to increase public awareness of prevention and early detection by providing free cancer screenings for breast, colorectal, oral, prostate and skin cancers throughout our 18 parish service area. Through the utilization of our mobile medical clinic, the Early Bird - named for our mission of early detection - we are able to bring these much needed screenings into the communities that we serve at convenient times and locations.

As part of this service, an Early Detection Patient Navigator is available to guide those with abnormal findings to ensure that they have access to the follow-up services they may need. Mary Bird Perkins' Prevention and Early Detection efforts are made possible through the generosity of the community and grant funding. Since 2002, this tremendous support has enabled us to screen over 37,000 people at no cost to the patient.
