Cancer Information
Cancer occurs when there are changes that control normal cell growth and death. The changes may be inherited, or due to environmental or lifestyle factors. The earlier the cancer is found, the more effective it can be treated through one or a combination of the following: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormones and/or biological therapy. Treatment plans depend on the type and locations of the cancer, whether the disease has spread and the patient’s age and general health.
Being diagnosed with cancer is scary and overwhelming. Many patients and their families like to do research about their particular diagnosis and suggested treatment. We encourage you to visit our Resources section to find reliable and accurate sources of information. If you have any questions, please ask one of our social workers or your doctor if you have concerns related to your research findings.
