Ladies Night Out Update - Houma

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC (Terrebonne General Medical Center) hosted the 4th annual Ladies Night Out Gala on March 12 to raise money and build cancer awareness throughout the tri-parish area. This successful event invested $31,000 into the fight against cancer in our community. The proceeds from the gala will benefit a women’s boutique in the cancer center that will provide additional specialty services, products and fittings for women undergoing treatment and recovering from cancer.

The gala was held at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center and included beverages, dinner and more than 150 silent auction items. More than 700 women were greeted with feather boas – white signifying cancer survivors and pink for supporters – to celebrate the cause. Guest speaker Peggy Kline, professional speaker/humorist and author of “Treating Yourself Like Royalty,” spoke enthusiastically about health systems and women’s organizations that share her mission of improving the quality of life for women.

Currently, Mary Bird Perkins at TGMC is providing “Care Bags” that feature products such as health and beauty aids, scarves, turbans, wigs, specialty creams and lotions to all newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. The boutique will be part of the new Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC now under construction and scheduled for completion in May 2011.

For more information regarding the boutique, please contact Clarke Currie, Director of Cancer Care, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC, (985) 850-6304.
