Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center houses and operates a Regional Tumor Registry, one of eight regional registries comprising the Louisiana Tumor Registry, which reports newly diagnosed cancer cases to assist in health care decision making and formation of public policy.
The Tumor Registry at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is a specialized data system designed for the collection, management and analysis of demographic, diagnostic, treatment and staging data on cancer patients treated at MBPCC. All cases are abstracted, coded and staged in accordance with guidelines set by the American College of Surgeons, the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results program and the Louisiana Tumor Registry.
