Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center's 40th Anniversary

Staff and volunteers at the Baton Rouge Center gathered for a group photo.

This year we celebrate four decades of progress in the fight against cancer. Although each center opened on different dates, we are all celebrating together what is possible today because of Mary Bird Perkins beginning 40 years ago.
Employee luncheons at each Center kicked off the year long celebration on February 17th to recognize all of the wonderful work made possible through passionate employees and volunteers. The celebration continued on Sunday, April 3 at the 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala.
Thank you to all who attended and supported the 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala! It was a wonderful event and a special way to celebrate 40 years of volunteerism at Mary Bird Perkins! It was community volunteers who had the vision for what ultimately became Mary Bird Perkins, and today it is community volunteers who still support MBP – allowing us to continue our fight against cancer in southeast Louisiana.
Three prestigious annual Volunteer Awards were presented to recognize those who have made a positive impact on the fight against cancer. The Hillar C. Moore, Jr. Outstanding Service Award was presented to G. Lee Griffin; the Louis D. Curet Volunteer Fundraiser Award was presented to Gail and Bill O’Quin; the Anna B. Lipsey Memorial Volunteer Service Award was presented to Judy and Bob Cancienne. Click the names above to watch the acceptances.. A special timeline video was also shown at the Gala showcasing Mary Bird Perkins' last 40 years.
Also, a very special presentation was made, announcing Mr. Thomas J. “T.J.” Moran’s $1 million gift to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Foundation. Mr. Moran, a 22-year survivor of throat cancer and former patient of Mary Bird Perkins, credits Dr. Robert Fields and the expert staff at Mary Bird Perkins with saving and extending his life.
